Moraira
There are 38 Blue Flag beaches along this stretch of coast!
The Costa Blanca has amazing natural beauty lying just behind its beaches, a range of rugged mountains and sculpted peaks, which creates a spectacular backdrop and provides some thrilling scenery to explore. The eagle’s-nest village of Guadalest is magnificent. Built as a Moorish stronghold during the 8th century. The only access is through a tunnel in the rock, which is why the village remained unconquered. It is perched on a rocky outcrop over 2000ft (610m) high and is the most visited village on the Costa Blanca.
The most famous natural landmark is Penon de Ifach at Calpe. This volcanic rock rises more than 990ft (300m) from the sea like a mini Rock of Gibraltar and is joined to the mainland by a narrow isthmus. It has been turned into a nature park, protecting local plants and animals. Falcons and seagulls nest in the rock. You can climb to the summit on a pathway tunnelled through the solid rock for a marvellous view of the coastline.
Markets are generally held one day a week in towns throughout the Costa Blanca. Moraira’s market day is Friday!
